Since 1985 community law has known a principle of no-fault or objective liability, which compels the producer of a defective movable property to compensate the private individual who has suffered damage. This extra-contractual liability therefore covers any private individual, and is not limited to the buyer or the user who has suffered damage caused by a defective product.

For the second time the Court of Justice of the European Communities has made a decision about directive 93/104/CE in reference to certain aspects of the organization of working time. Its first judgement given in 1996 dealt with the legal basis of the aforesaid directive and partially rejected the application to set the directive aside brought by the United Kingdom. Since then, the directive has entered into force and the judgment of 3 October 2000 clarifies the scope, some definitions as well as the terms for derogations.
